Équipe nationale : Comment Cheikh Niasse a réussi son pari

L’autre surprise de la liste de Pape Thiaw pour le rassemblement de mars se nomme Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Niasse. Méconnu du grand public, le milieu de terrain de 25 ans, ancien joueur de Lille, évolue à Hellas Verone (Italie) depuis février dernier.

Né le 19 janvier 2000 à Gossas, un des trois départements de la région de Fatick, Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Niasse a rejoint l’Europe et la France à l’âge de 2 ans.

Comme Idrissa Gana Guèye, milieu de terrain référence au Sénégal, Niasse a été formé à Lille. Arrivé à LOSC en 2018, il n’a jamais eu l’occasion de s’imposer chez les Dogues. Contrairement à Gana Guèye, champion de France en 2011.

Quand il suppliait les dirigeants lillois de le libérer

Avec l’équipe professionnelle de Lille, Niasse n’a disputé que 7 matchs. Prêté au Panathinaïkós en 2020-2021, le milieu de terrain de 25 ans, fan de Joshua Kimmich, avait retrouvé du temps de jeu en disputant 15 rencontres. De retour au LOSC pour espérer du temps de jeu, il a encore été placardisé, d’où sa décision de demander à partir pour relancer sa jeune carrière.

Dans une étonnante lettre envoyée à la direction du club en novembre 2021, Niasse affirmait qu’il n’avait aucun avenir à Lille et aucune perspective pour lui ne se dessinait dans le projet auquel il souhaitait le plus grand succès à l’époque.

« Avec beaucoup d’amertume, je viens par ce courrier pour solliciter mon départ de mon club formateur. Cependant après une longue réflexion sur ma situation sportive, je vous supplie de donner une suite à tout transfert me concernant au prochain mercato de janvier 2022. Je vous demande officiellement de quitter le club », avait-il adressé.

Berne, terre de relance et d’espoir

La suite, un transfert du côté de Suisse, malgré plusieurs sollicitations des clubs de Ligue 1 comme Angers et Brest. C’est à Berne, dans le club des Young Boys, que le natif de Gossas a vraiment explosé.

Indiscutable dans l’entrejeu du club suisse, Cheikh Niasse a disputé 110 matchs pour 2 buts et 7 passes décisives. Il a également soulevé trois trophées majeurs à Berne : deux titres de champions en 2023 et 2024 et une Coupe de Suisse en 2023.

Avec les Young Boys, Cheikh Tidiane Niasse a connu la plus prestigieuse des compétitions européennes, voire mondiales, de clubs : la Ligue des champions. Auteur de 11 rencontres en C1, le milieu de terrain de 25 ans a affronté des joueurs de classe mondiale comme Haaland, De Bruyne, Lewandowski, Yamal, Lautaro, Pedri, Rodri…et de grands clubs comme FC Barcelone, Manchester City et Inter Milan.

Cheikh a même été décisif face à City le 25 novembre 2023 en délivrant une passe décisive lors de la défaite de son équipe (1-3) en phase de groupes de la Ligue des champions.

« Avec Young Boys, Ils m’ont donné beaucoup d’opportunités, de me faire une place et de montrer mes qualités sur le terrain. Ils m’ont donné de la confiance au milieu d’un bon projet et évidemment j’ai tout de suite adhéré », a-t-il affirmé dans un entretien avec Wiwsport en janvier 2024.

La visibilité en Serie A

Après deux saisons et demie en Suisse, Cheikh Niasse a décidé, lors du dernier mercato d’hiver, de rejoindre un championnat où il y est plus de visibilité. Il a donc choisi la Serie A italienne, l’une des cinq meilleures ligues du continent européen.  

Dans sa logique de progression, Cheikh a préféré défendre les couleurs d’une équipe de bas de tableau. C’est ainsi qu’il a rejoint Hellas Verone, une formation qui lutte pour sauver sa peau en Serie A.

A Vérone, l’ancien de Lille a disputé 6 matchs de championnat (5 titularisations), le tout pour 485 minutes de temps de jeu dans les jambes. Ce samedi 15 mars, Niasse aura l’occasion de l’illustrer contre Udinese, avant de répondre à l’appel de Pape Thiaw.

Pari réussi, place à la concurrence en sélection !

Justement, son arrivée dans la Tanière sera scrutée de très près. C’est une forte concurrence qui l’attend dans l’entrejeu des Lions. Plusieurs fois sélectionnés dans les équipes de jeunes de la France (U17, U17, U20), Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane est enfin prêt à évoluer dans le haut niveau international. Il a les qualités pour s’imposer dans un secteur orphelin d’Habib Diarra.

« Au niveau de mes points forts, je dirais déjà le côté physique, j’ai une grosse capacité à défendre, je cours beaucoup, je récupère beaucoup de ballons, j’aime beaucoup tacler, je suis bon dans l’anticipation. Ce qu’il me manque encore un peu, c’est d’être percutant, d’aller vers l’avant, faire des passes décisives et tout. Ce sont vraiment les points sur lesquels je travaille en ce moment », avait-il décrit dans Foot Mercato le 18 avril 2023.

A lui se saisir sa chance contre le Soudan, le 22 mars à Benghazi (Libye) et le 25 du même mois à Diamniadio face au Togo !
