Kalidou Koulibaly : « Nous devons continuer à travailler les coups de pied arrêtés »

Koulibaly Kalidou capitaine

À la veille du dernier match des éliminatoires de la CAN 2025 face au Burundi, Kalidou Koulibaly s’est exprimé ce lundi en conférence de presse aux côtés du sélectionneur Pape Thiaw. Le capitaine des Lions de la Téranga a abordé plusieurs sujets, notamment l’état d’esprit de l’équipe, les performances défensives et les coups de pied arrêtés, tout en réaffirmant la volonté du groupe de conclure l’année civile sur une note positive.

Malgré quelques difficultés lors des derniers matchs, Kalidou Koulibaly s’est montré optimiste sur l’état de préparation des Lions pour cette ultime rencontre à domicile. « L’état d’esprit est impeccable, tout le monde est motivé pour ce match de demain. Nous avons à cœur de bien finir l’année civile au Sénégal, devant notre public. »

Le défenseur central a insisté sur l’importance de livrer une prestation convaincante, non seulement pour les supporters, mais aussi pour renforcer la dynamique de l’équipe en vue des échéances futures.

Koulibaly s’est longuement attardé sur l’organisation défensive des Lions, tout en saluant la prouesse de Edouard Mendy lors du dernier match. « Nous cherchons à être les plus solides possible, à encaisser le moins de buts. Lors du dernier match, Edouard Mendy a réalisé cinq arrêts décisifs. Moi, je n’ai jamais douté de lui. On parle souvent de Edouard de Chelsea, mais il n’a jamais perdu son niveau. »

Le capitaine a également reconnu certaines imperfections défensives, tout en se réjouissant du clean sheet obtenu. « Sur les trois derniers matchs, nous n’avons pris aucun but. Cela montre que la ligne directrice est claire : la défense est un travail collectif, de toute l’équipe. »

Interrogé sur l’inefficacité des Lions sur coups de pied arrêtés, Koulibaly n’a pas éludé le problème et a admis sa propre responsabilité. « C’est vrai qu’on obtient beaucoup de coups de pied arrêtés, mais on n’arrive pas à les concrétiser. Moi le premier, car je n’ai marqué qu’un but en sélection. »

Le défenseur a souligné l’importance pour les défenseurs d’apporter plus d’impact offensif dans ce domaine. « Le dernier buteur sur coup de tête était Abdoulaye Seck. Nous devons continuer à travailler sur cet aspect. L’inefficacité offensive ne concerne pas seulement les attaquants, mais aussi les défenseurs. Nous allons trouver la bonne solution. »
