Né le 21 septembre 1992 à Gueule Tapée, Dakar, Cheikh Lo Ndoye s’est hissé au rang des meilleurs gardiens de but de la Ligue 1 sénégalaise. Derrière cette réussite se cache un parcours fait de persévérance, de travail acharné, et de patience. Aujourd’hui capitaine du Jaraaf, l’un des clubs les plus prestigieux du Sénégal, Cheikh Lo Ndoye est devenu un leader incontesté, tant sur le terrain qu’en dehors. Mais rien ne lui a été offert sur un plateau d’argent.
Un parcours semé d’embûches
Cheikh Lo Ndoye fait ses premiers pas dans le football avec la Renaissance de Dakar, un club qui l’a vu éclore et développer son potentiel. En 2016, il rejoint le Jaraaf, où il commence à faire parler de lui. Cependant, sa carrière prend un tournant décisif en 2018 lorsqu’il est prêté à la Sonacos. Là-bas, il s’impose rapidement comme un mur infranchissable, au point d’être désigné meilleur gardien de la saison par le journal Stades. Cette période d’épanouissement lui permet de rentrer au Jaraaf. Son fief.
Sous la direction de Malick Daf et Charles René Ndiaye, entraîneur des gardiens, Cheikh Lo Ndoye fait preuve d’une résilience hors du commun. Relégué en début de saison au rang de doublure derrière Abdoulaye Diakhaté, il finit par saisir sa chance à force de travail et de détermination. Cette persévérance lui permet de s’imposer comme titulaire et de devenir capitaine de l’équipe, symbole de son leadership. La saison dernière, il a réalisé une performance exceptionnelle en enregistrant 15 clean-sheets en 23 matchs, prouvant qu’il était non seulement une valeur sûre en Ligue 1, mais aussi un atout majeur pour le Jaraaf. Et en cette nouvelle saison, il démarre en Coupe CAF par un sans-faute. En quatre sorties africaines, il a enregistré 4 clean-sheets.
Un leader et un modèle de résilience
Aujourd’hui, Cheikh Lo Ndoye incarne le gardien complet : fiable techniquement, doté d’une lecture du jeu impeccable, et d’un leadership naturel. Ses coéquipiers et ses entraîneurs saluent régulièrement sa détermination et son engagement. Son ancien entraîneur à la Sonacos et au Jaraaf, Cheikh Gueye, ne tarit pas d’éloges à son égard : « Il mérite d’être là où il est aujourd’hui. Sa convocation est la reconnaissance de son travail et de sa constance. C’est un leader qui n’accepte pas la défaite et qui inspire ses coéquipiers. Humainement, c’est quelqu’un de sociable et respectueux. Il a de l’avenir, et cette constance ouvre pour lui de nouvelles portes de succès. »
Une petite revanche à 32 ans
Mais Cheikh Lo Ndoye, ce n’est pas seulement des performances sur le terrain. En dehors du rectangle vert, il est reconnu pour son humilité et son engagement auprès de ses coéquipiers. Il fait office de mentor pour les plus jeunes, partageant son expérience et sa vision du football. Sa stature de capitaine n’est pas uniquement due à ses qualités sportives, mais également à sa personnalité attachante et respectée. Sous son impulsion, le Jaraaf a retrouvé de la stabilité en défense, et ses performances en compétition continentale ont également mis en lumière ses qualités.
À 32 ans, Cheikh Lo Ndoye sait que de nouveaux défis l’attendent. Loin d’être à la fin de sa carrière, il voit cette période comme une ouverture vers de nouvelles opportunités, notamment au niveau international. Une petite revanche aussi pour lui qui n’avait pas été sélectionné pour le CHAN 2022, remporté par le Sénégal en Algérie.
