5 victoires d’affilée : Du jamais vu pour le Sénégal depuis 2018 !

Un succès sous Aliou Cissé et quatre consécutifs avec l’intérimaire Pape Thiaw ! Le Sénégal est dans une très belle dynamique, semblable à une série des Lions entre 2018 et 2019. Ou presque…

Le Sénégal avait mal démarré les éliminatoires de la CAN 2025. Un match nul à domicile face au Burkina Faso (1-1), synonyme de contreperformance. Quelques jours plus tard, les Lions ont arraché une victoire presque inespérée à Lilongwe contre le Burundi (1-0), grâce à un penalty provoqué par Sadio Mané et transformé par Ismaila Sarr.

Une victoire aux forceps qui avait accentué les critiques sur Aliou Cissé. Il sera finalement remercié et remplacé par Pape Thiaw, à quelques jours de la double confrontation avec le Malawi. A Diamniadio, Thiaw a démarré par un large succès (4-0). Il enchainera d’autres victoires contre les mêmes « Flames » à Lilongwe (1-0), le Burkina Faso à Bamako (1-0) et celle de ce mardi face au Burundi (2-0). Soit cinq victoires d’affilée. Une première pour le Sénégal depuis 2018.

Il y a six ans, les Lions avaient battu deux fois le Soudan (3-0, 1-0) et Madagascar (2-0) en éliminatoires de la CAN 2019. Ils enchaîneront trois autres succès. D’abord face au Mali (2-1) et au Nigeria (1-0) en amical, puis contre la Tanzanie (2-0) lors de la 1re journée de la phase de groupes de la CAN 2019 au Caire. Sadio Mané et ses coéquipiers seront ensuite freinés par l’Algérie (1-0), lors de la 2e journée.

Mais, la série en cours, dans laquelle il n’y a pas de matchs amicaux, est sans doute plus belle. Pourvu qu’elle soit plus longue !
