Thomas Tuchel, sélectionneur de l’Angleterre, se prépare au bon défi d’« affronter une équipe africaine forte », le Sénégal en l’occurrence. C’est à la suite de la confirmation par la Fédération anglaise de football, ce mercredi, du match amical contre les Lions, le 10 juin 2025, à Nottingham Forest.
Comme nous vous l’indiquions, le City Ground de Nottingham Forest accueillera le match amical entre l’Angleterre, désormais entraînée par Tuchel, et le Sénégal, le mardi 10 juin 2025 (18h45 GMT). C’est le Pays de Galles qui jouera à Wembley, le jeudi 9 octobre.
« Les matches contre le Sénégal et le Pays de Galles nous présenteront de bons défis face à deux adversaires très différents. Affronter une équipe africaine forte dans une ville passionnée avec un riche héritage footballistique, puis un derby dans l’emblématique Wembley ; deux grandes occasions qui ne peuvent que nous aider sur la route de la Coupe du monde », a déclaré l’Allemand, qui veut ainsi compléter la campagne de qualification des Three Lions au Mondial 2026.
Sous ce rapport, à en croire Tuchel, le Sénégal sera un hôte de marque pour l’Angleterre. « Bien que je sache que Wembley soit notre maison, je comprends également l’importance d’emmener l’équipe à travers le pays lorsque nous le pouvons et l’opportunité de vivre l’expérience de jouer dans un célèbre vieux stade anglais comme le City Ground est quelque chose que nous pouvons tous attendre avec impatience », a-t-il souligné.
Éliminé par l’Angleterre en huitièmes de finale de la Coupe du monde 2022 au Qatar (défaite 3-0), le Sénégal aura donc l’occasion de marquer le coup au City Ground, qui accueillera un match international masculin anglais pour la première fois depuis 1909.
