Après le succès face au Gabon (3-0), vendredi dernier, le Sénégal fera face au Bénin, ce mardi (19h30 GMT) pour clore le mois de mars en beauté, avant les choses sérieuses en juin.
A Amiens depuis plus d’une semaine, le Sénégal boucle son rassemblement de mars ce mardi avec la rencontre face au Bénin au stade de la Licorne. Un match qui intervient quatre jours après le succès contre le Gabon (3-0).
Le retour des cadres
Face au Bénin ce soir, les Lions visent un carton plein pour se rassurer après l’échec en Côte d’Ivoire en janvier dernier, mais surtout engranger le maximum de confiance avant juin, un mois décisif qui attend le Sénégal avec la suite des éliminatoires de la Coupe du monde 2026, contre la Mauritanie à Nouakchott et face à la RD Congo à Diamniadio.
Ce soir, ce sera sans doute une autre équipe qui fera face aux Guépards, différente de celle qui a affronté les Panthères, vendredi dernier.
Dans les buts, on attendait la titularisation d’Edouard Mendy. Mais ce dernier, à cause d’une blessure, devrait céder sa place à Seny Dieng. En défense, le capitaine Kalidou Koulibaly fera son retour. Au milieu, Idrissa Gana Guèye devrait se retrouver aux côtés de Nampalys Mendy et Habib Diarra. Et puis en attaque, l’indispensable Sadio Mané et Habib Diallo devraient être titulaires.
« L’objectif était sur ces deux matchs de donner du temps de jeu à un groupe contre le Gabon, puis à un autre groupe contre le Bénin. Nous allons nous inscrire sur cette même ligne directrice en donnant du temps de jeu à un autre groupe. L’équipe sera fortement modifiée par rapport au premier match, parce qu’on ne peut pas convoquer des joueurs sans leur donner du temps jeu », a indiqué le sélectionneur Aliou Cissé en conférence de presse d’avant-match.
Les Lions invaincus face aux Guépards
Avec le retour des cadres, le Sénégal ne devrait pas avoir de soucis face au Bénin, un adversaire qui a souvent réussi aux Lions.
La dernière confrontation entre les deux nations remontent au 12 juin 2023 à Cotonou (1-1). Le défenseur central Abdoulaye Seck avait ouvert le score, mais les Guépards avaient égalisé en seconde période.
Il y a près de deux ans, le Sénégal s’était imposé (3-1) au stade Abdoulaye Wade de Diamniadio en éliminatoire de la CAN 2024, grâce au triplé de Sadio Mané.
En quart de finale de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations 2019, les Lions avaient également battu le Bénin (1-0), grâce à Idrissa Gana Guèye.
La rencontre de ce mardi sera la 9e confrontation entre les deux nations. 8 matchs pour 6 victoires du Sénégal et 2 matchs nuls.
