C’est une nouvelle dont se serait passée la CAF. A un mois du coup d’envoi de la CAN U20 la Côte d’Ivoire renonce à l’organisation selon la presse ivoirienne. Les autorités ivoiriennes ont informé ce mardi 25 mars la CAF par courrier.
« Par la présente, le Président Yacine Idriss DIALLO, Président de la FIF, Président du COCAN U20 vous informe que, par courrier officiel, le Gouvernement a notifié à la Fédération Ivoirienne de Football (FIF) le désistement de la Côte d’Ivoire en tant que pays hôte de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations U20. Conformément aux instructions du Président de la FIF, le Directeur Exécutif a transmis cette information au Secrétaire Général de la Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) ce mardi 25 mars 2025. Le Président tient à exprimer sa profonde gratitude à chacun pour son engagement et le travail accompli dans le cadre de l’organisation de cette compétition et vous rassurer que chacun sera informé des suites que la CAF donnera à cette situation », lit-on.
Avec ce désistement, la CAF doit désormais chercher un autre pays organisateur pour sauver cette compétition. Ou certainement la reporter comme le CHAN 2024, il y a quelques mois. La Côte d’Ivoire, de son côté, risque des sanctions allant jusqu’à la suspension de toutes ses sélections.
La dernière édition de la CAN U20 a été tenue en Egypte. Le Sénégal avait été sacré devant la Gambie.
