Nigeria : William Troost-Ekong suggère un Aliou Cissé sur le banc des Super Eagles

Aliou Cissé est réputé pour être un technicien du cru avec des résultats probants à la tête de la sélection sénégalaise. C’est le profil qu’il faudrait au Nigeria selon son capitaine William Troost-Ekong, qui s’est exprimé ce samedi au micro d’une radio locale reprise par Complete Sports.

« J’ai dit ça parce que j’ai vu le Sénégal, par exemple, ce qu’ils réalisent avec leur entraîneur. La Côte d’Ivoire, désormais, qui a changé d’entraîneur en milieu de tournoi (CAN 2023). » Dans une interview avec la légende nigériane Segun Odegbami, sur sa station de radio Eagles 7 103.7FM, samedi matin, reprise par le média cité plus haut, William Troost-Ekong a révélé qu’il préférerait un entraîneur local pour les Super Eagles.

Le Nigeria est sans sélectionneur depuis le départ de José Peseiro, le 1er mars 2024. Ainsi, Aliou Cissé, en poste depuis le 05 mars 2015 avec de hauts faits, notamment un sacre à la tête des Lions, crédite la piste menant à un technicien local. Et, le parcours d’Emerse Faé sur le banc des Ivoiriens, vainqueurs de la 34e édition de la CAN, ne fait que renforcer le bienfondé de cette option.

« Je pense que ce sera la situation idéale pour notre équipe, pour être honnête », estime le capitaine du Nigeria, qui dégage des critères : « Il y a quelque chose qui doit être dit à propos d’un entraîneur qui comprend la culture d’un pays, les joueurs et le parcours quotidien, ayant déjà été là-bas en tant que joueur, jouant à la CAN. »

Pour autant, le meilleur joueur de la Coupe d’Afrique 2023 sous la houlette de José Peseiro reconnaît la valeur de l’expertise étrangère. « Mais d’un autre côté, je ne peux pas exclure le fait d’avoir un entraîneur étranger car mon expérience sous la direction de Gernot Rohr a été très bonne », relativise-t-il.

Mieux, William Troost-Ekong souligne « l’exploit » du Portugais, très contesté avant le début de la CAN en Côte d’Ivoire, conclue malgré tout par un titre de vice-champion d’Afrique 2023. « J’aime penser, au-delà des nationalités et des positions politiques, que quelle que soit la décision qui sera prise, elle sera la meilleure pour l’équipe », finit-il par dire.

Finidi George est actuellement intérimaire sur le banc des Super Eagles. D’après Soccer Net, des rapports suggèrent que la Fédération nigériane de football s’apprête à annoncer l’ancien international Emmanuel Amunike comme nouvel entraîneur-chef du Nigeria.
