Le profil du Sénégalais Habib Beye séduit en Algérie, qui doit pourvoir le poste laissé vacant par Djamel Belmadi, démissionnaire après la seconde désillusion des Fennecs en Coupe d’Afrique des Nations (CAN). Les atouts de l’ancien défenseur des Lions : “une combinaison unique d’expérience en tant que joueur de haut niveau et de compétence en tant qu’entraîneur”, souligne-t-on.

Le nom d’Habib émerge avec instance au milieu d’autres profils comme futur successeur de Djamel Belmadi à la tête de la sélection d’Algérie. La reconnaissance médiatique du Sénégalais en fait une option crédible. “Habib Beye, bien connu dans le monde du football, a été international sénégalais pendant plusieurs années et a ensuite embrassé une carrière d’entraîneur. Sa connaissance approfondie du jeu et son expérience en tant que joueur font de lui un candidat séduisant pour diriger les Fennecs”, mentionne Fennec Football Club.

L’Algérie ne gagne plus depuis 6 matchs de Coupe d’Afrique après son sacre en 2019 aux dépens du Sénégal. Djamel Belmadi n’a pas résisté à la défaite (0-1) contre la Mauritanie, lors de la 3e et dernière journée de la phase de Groupes. Une contre-performance synonyme d’élimination des Fennecs dont les supporters s’etouffent depuis 4 ans avec le célèbre slogan “one-two-three, viva Algérie”. La mission du futur entraîneur des Verts est claire : insuffler un nouveau souffle et guider l’équipe vers de nouveaux succès.

Habib Beye (35 sélections, 1 but) s’est reconverti entraîneur depuis bientôt quatre ans à la fin de sa carrière de joueur conclue à Doncaster en juillet 2012. Après une expérience remarquée comme consultant pour la chaîne de sport de Canal+, il est actuellement en poste depuis septembre 2021 au Red Star. Son contrat avec l’actuel leader du National 1 de France se termine en juin prochain. Avec, on l’espère, un titre et la montée en Ligue 2, après avoir terminé deux fois 3e en 2021/22 et en 2022/23. Avant un challenge sur le banc d’une sélection ?
