L’ancien capitaine des Lions ne reviendrait pas dans la Tanière comme joueur. Sans club depuis l’été dernier et la fin de son contrat à Nottingham Forrest, il intégrerait le staff de Pape Thiaw. Dans le rôle d’un assistant proche des joueurs pour assurer la transition générationnelle. Cheikhou Kouyaté maitrise l’environnement de la Tanière et connait parfaitement bien ses réalités. Pendant des années, même déchu de son brassard de capitaine, Yedel a été le relai de Aliou Cissé qui a restauré la discipline dans cette sélection, inculqué l’amour du maillot à ‘’ses ‘’ Lions et insufflé un état d’esprit conquérant. Kouyaté a été de toutes les dernières grandes batailles avec un esprit de combattant indispensable pour remporter des trophées. Un rôle d’assistant et jeune retraité qui participe aux entrainements et met de l’intensité dans les exercices afin de montrer qu’il lui en reste encore un peu sous la semelle lui irait à merveille. Diouf l’a joué avec brio en Egypte (2019) et au Cameroun (2022). Un peu moins bien ces derniers temps. Kouyaté, lui, a le profil de l’emploi. Reste à savoir s’il veut déjà de cette transition…
