Cheikh Mbengue AFAT Académie Thiès

Président d’AFAT, promu en National 2, Cheikh Mbengue est revenu sur la saison en division régionale. À quelques heures de la finale de la ligue de football de Thiès, l’ancien joueur de l’équipe nationale évoque la progression notée dans le football sénégalais.

Cheikh Mbengue, le nom du club a-t-il une origine particulière ?

Cheikh Mbengue : AFAT qui signifie Académie Foot Avenir de Thiès a été trouvé avec un collaborateur qui ne travaille plus avec nous. Aujourd’hui nous allons même vers un changement de nom et AFAT deviendra United Academy à partir de la saison prochaine.

Quels sont les objectifs de l’académie ?

Notre principal objectif est de former les jeunes footballeurs sénégalais et de les envoyer à l’extérieur. Pour le moment deux joueurs sont partis en France et au Portugal. Il s’agit de Amadou Souleymane Diallo et de Mamadou Savané.

En revenant sur votre saison, quels aspects ont été déterminants dans la réussite d’AFAT ?

Nous avons beaucoup travaillé pour atteindre notre objectif. Ça va faire un an, ce 1er Septembre, depuis que nous avions commencé la préparation. Ainsi nous avons eu du temps pour mettre en place beaucoup de choses. L’autre objectif reste la progression des joueurs et elle se fait dans la compétition. Aujourd’hui nous pouvons dire que nous avons fait ce qu’il fallait. AFAT n’a concédé aucune défaite jusqu’ici. Nous avons eu 3 matchs nuls et le reste ce sont des victoires.

En National 2, vous aurez quoi objectifs?

Quand on joue un championnat c’est pour le gagner. Mais on n’est pas focalisé sur le résultat. Ce qui nous intéresse avant tout c’est la progression des joueurs. Maintenant si on arrive à les faire progresser et à gagner c’est bien.

Le National 2 est forcément plus difficile. Les longs déplacements, les dépenses… Avez-vous les moyens pour bien aborder la saison ?

Quand on mettait en place l’académie, on savait que cette situation arriverait. On va se préparer en conséquence. Pour le moment on attend le tirage pour voir dans quelle poule on va tomber, tout en espérant avoir à faire le moins de longs déplacements possibles.

Comment jugez-vous le niveau du football local ?

Il faut noter que le foot local est en train de progresser. On n’a pas encore exploité le maximum de notre potentiel pour des raisons indépendantes de notre volonté. On voit qu’il y a des résultats satisfaisants des sélections de jeunes et de l’équipe nationale locale. Ce sont des performances à répéter et pour y arriver il faut travailler. Il y a beaucoup de bons techniciens et des gens qui investissent dans le football.

Quelle est votre appréciation sur l’organisation du championnat régional ?

Le championnat devrait commencer plus tôt. Commencer en Novembre Décembre nous permettra d’avoir un maximum d’énergie pendant les mois où il fait très chaud. Vous voyez on joue jusqu’à présent.

Votre travail s’arrête-t-il seulement à la présidence du club ou vous comptez diriger un jour le club comme entraineur ?

Déjà je suis sur les terrains tous les jours malgré mon statut de président.

La liste publiée par Aliou Cissé ce matin suscite beaucoup de commentaires en ce qui concerne l’absence ou la présence de certains joueurs. Comment appréciez-vous cette liste ?

Il y aura toujours des débats sur les listes. Forcément il y a des gens qui sont contents et d’autres qui ne le sont pas. Maintenant le choix des joueurs dépend des matchs et de l’équipe que le coach veut mettre en place.
