Plusieurs défis attendent les Lions en Côte d’Ivoire à partir de ce lundi à Yamoussoukro où les champions d’Afrique vont entamer la défense de leur titre face aux Scorpions de la Gambie. Les hommes d’Aliou Cissé font face à ceux de Tom Sainfiet, à partir de 14h (GMT), au stade Charles Konan Banny, pour le compte de la 1re journée du Groupe C.
« Maintenant qu’on connaît le chemin qui mène à la gloire, on va continuer à gagner », déclarait le président de la Fédération sénégalaise de Football (FSF), Augustin Senghor, au soir du 6 février 2022 à Yaoundé, au Cameroun où le Sénégal venait de remporter pour la première fois la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations (CAN).

Mais avant de penser au titre, il faudra d’abord éviter le piège gambien. Contre les Scorpions, les champions d’Afrique veulent démarrer fort. Il faudra faire beaucoup attention aux quart-de-finalistes de la CAN 2021 qui « n’ont rien à perdre », selon leur entraîneur Tom Sainfiet.
Un match particulier pour Jackson
Cette rencontre sera également particulière pour Nicolas Jackson. Né en Gambie, l’ailier sénégalais de 22 ans a grandi à Ziguinghor. C’est au Casa Sports qu’il a débuté sa carrière de footballeur avant de filer en Europe, plus précisément à Villarreal.
Aujourd’hui joueur de Chelsea, l’attaquant international sénégalais, qui s’apprête à disputer son premier match de Coupe d’Afrique des Nations, veut jouer un mauvais tour à la sélection gambienne.
