Il y a trois ans, le Jaraaf devenait le premier club sénégalais à se hisser en phase de poules de la Coupe de la CAF. Depuis, aucun autre ne l’a imité. Les « Vert et blanc » ont donc l’opportunité, ce dimanche au stade Lat Dior de Thiès, d’entrer un peu plus dans l’histoire du football national dans cette épreuve. Signe du destin, peut-être, le Jaraaf avait alors commencé sa route vers ladite phase de poules en sortant le club ivoirien de San Pedro, et voici qu’il est en position de boucler ce même court mais périlleux parcours face à un autre adversaire ivoirien, le Racing Club d’Abidjan.
Pourtant, il y a trois ans, c’était plutôt mal parti, le Jaraaf s’étant incliné à l’aller à domicile (0 – 1), mais il avait eu suffisant de ressources pour aller s’imposer chez les Pétrussiens (2 – 1). Cette fois, c’est a priori mieux engagé, la manche aller à Abidjan s’étant soldée par un nul vierge. Mais attention, score piègeux ! Ce n’est qu’après coup que l’on saura si ce 0 – 0 était un bon résultat ou pas. L’exemple de Génération Foot est là pour le rappeler au besoin : le club de Déni Birame Ndaw croyait avoir fait le plus dur il y a un an en revenant de chez le Hafia AC avec le même score nul et vierge. Mais il avait été puni et éliminé au retour (2 – 2) chez lui.
Alors, Malick Daf, le coach du Jaraaf a raison de parler d’ « humilité » à avoir pour ne pas jeter le manche… avant la cognée. Peut-être d’ailleurs qu’il a le secret pour venir à bout de ses adversaires ivoiriens, lui qui avait renversé San Pedro chez lui, il y a trois ans. Mais entre-temps, les clubs ivoiriens et d’Abidjan ont repris la main, l’ASEC puis le Stade ayant éconduit Teungueth FC, respectivement il y a deux ans (deux fois 1 – 0) et le mois passé (2 fois 1 – 1 et 5 – 4 aux tirs au but), à chaque fois avec match retour au stade Lat Dior de Thiès.
Comme quoi, le match retour à domicile n’est plus forcément une garantie tous risques. Il est loin, en effet, le temps où les équipes évoluant chez elles lors de la manche décisive, pouvaient tranquillement soudoyer un arbitre pour faire pencher le verdict de leur côté. Les clubs sénégalais ont payé un lourd tribut à cette pratique face à des adversaires … ivoiriens. A l’image de l’AS Douanes face à l’ASEC (en coupe des vainqueurs de coupe en 1987) et de l’ETICS contre Africa Sports d’Abidjan (en coupe de l’UFOA en 1991). Douaniers et « Phosphatiers » avaient alors été détroussés comme au coin d’un bois. Les premiers, vainqueurs à Dakar de la manche aller (2 – 0) étaient qualifiés à la fin du temps réglementaire. Mais l’arbitre avait fait jouer des « temps morts » anormalement longs qui avaient permis à l’ASEC d’inscrire le 4ème but (score final 4 à 1) qui lui avait permis de passer au tour suivant. Les seconds qui s’étaient imposés à Dakar (2 – 0), avaient été suffisamment prudents pour tenir toute une mi-temps avant de céder deux fois sur deux penalties imaginaires pour enfin se faire sortir aux tirs au but (5 – 6)
Ce dimanche, le Jaraaf a toutes les bonnes cartes en mains pour s’imposer. Pour avoir tenu le coup au « Félicia » en évoluant à 10 contre 11 durant presque toute la seconde période, il a montré qu’il savait résister. Cette fois, chez lui, il devra prouver qu’il sait aussi bien attaquer (même sans son buteur – vedette Souleymane Cissé expulsé au match aller) et défendre intelligemment. De ce parfait équilibre devrait dépendre l’issue de cette rencontre. Les joueurs ont assuré qu’ils sont dans ces dispositions. Mais il ne suffit pas de le dire. 55 ans et deux jours après la naissance de leur club du mariage entre les Espoirs de Dakar et le Foyer France Sénégal, les Jaraafmen ne peuvent pas ne pas fêter cet anniversaire comme il se doit. Pour eux d’abord, ensuite pour leurs « pères » (de Louis Camara à Cheikh Seck, l’actuel président, et Amadou Diop « Boy Bandit » et de Séga Sakho récemment disparu à Khadim Faye et Tété Diandy). Et enfin pour tout le football sénégalais auquel le président de la FSF, Me Augustin Senghor, a demandé ce samedi, à aller « à l’impossible ». Message ne pourrait mieux tomber… Encore que là, la mission n’a rien d’impossible et est largement dans les cordes des joueurs de Malick Daf.
