Pour sa première titularisation depuis le 11 novembre, Pape Matar Sarr a participé au large succès des Spurs de Tottenham contre Newcastle (4-1), ce dimanche, lors de la 16e journée de Premier League.
Après un début de saison canon, à l’image de Tottenham qui survolait la Premier League, Pape Matar Sarr a connu un coup d’arrêt avec une blessure contractée en sélection lors du rassemblement des Lions de novembre. Contraint de rejoindre l’infirmerie des Spurs, il avait suivi avec impuissance les revers de son équipe contre Aston Villa et West Ham sur le même score (1-2).
De retour le 7 décembre dernier, celui qui avait débuté sur le banc n’avait disputé que six minutes face aux Hammers. Insuffisant pour empêcher la nouvelle défaite des Spurs. Ce dimanche, il retrouvait une place de titulaire dans l’entrejeu de Tottenham. Aux côtés du Malien Yves Bissouma, le jeune milieu de terrain sénégalais de 21 ans a retrouvé ses bonnes habitudes. Il a empêché les Magpies, Joelinton et Guimaraes, de dérouler.
Ce grand retour dans le onze de Tottenham a été bénéfique pour le technicien australien Ange Postecoglou qui n’avait plus gagné en championnat depuis le 27 octobre. Destiny Udogie (26’), Richarlison (38’, 60’) et Son Heung-min (85’) ont été les bourreaux de Newcastle qui a réduit le score par Joelinton (90’+1).
