Né en France, Pape Guèye a été appelé pour la première fois en sélection du Sénégal par Aliou Cissé en novembre 2021. Depuis, le milieu de terrain n’est plus ressorti du groupe. On le voit très souvent trainer avec Idrissa Gana Guèye qui lui apprend à parler le Wolof, langue la plus utilisée au Sénégal. Cependant une mésaventure est arrivée au Lion de 26 ans. Il a subi des vols répétitifs d’un influenceur sénégalais à Marseille. Si le milieu sénégalais n’a pas cité le nom de son voleur, il a raconté toutefois l’histoire au cours d’un entretien avec Footmercato.
« J’étais à Marseille et il y avait un snapchateur que les gens connaissent. Ils ne m’ont plus vu avec lui donc ils se disaient que c’était bizarre. Je suis dans une ville, le gars est sénégalais, moi aussi donc je l’ai pris un peu comme mon petit frère. Je lui donnais des places pour le stade, je l’invitais. À la CAN, je lui ai ouvert des portes… », confie Pape Guèye.
« Je le fais toujours avec le cœur, derrière je n’ai rien. Je m’entendais bien avec lui. J’avais une carte bancaire du Sénégal, où il fallait aller sur internet pour consulter son solde. Donc l’argent du Sénégal, je n’y touchais pas. Ce gars venait chez moi (…). Dieu merci, il n’y a eu aucun cambriolage. Mais ce n’est pas tout le monde qui est rentré chez moi. Je faisais vraiment attention. Dans un moment d’inattention, où on était ensemble, il a pris ma carte bancaire du Sénégal en photo. J’ai su quelques mois après qu’il s’envoyait de l’argent via PayPal avec ma carte bancaire du Sénégal dont je ne recevais pas les notifications », ajoute le joueur de Villarreal qui finira par découvrir la supercherie de l’influenceur sénégalais.
L’affaire s’est tout de même réglée. « Il m’a tout remboursé, c’était un bon montant », souligne l’ancien joueur du Havre qui désormais fait très attention dans ses relations amicales. « Tu es obligé, dit-il. J’ai aussi eu une trahison avec l’un de mes meilleurs amis ».
